Dieing to try dyeing

I've been wanting to try this for a while, so when I got my hands on a skein of 100% wool that has only been scoured and spun, I thought it was perfect. Now I just need to find the right dyeing process. I've dyed fabric heaps of times, but never wool. Help! Does anyone have any dyeing tips for me?

  1. Hi Megan. Good luck with the dyeing! This is the link to one of my favourite blogs:

Linda spins and dyes her own wool. She is amazing. I think she just posted recently about dyeing with onion skins.

  2. I have done a little dying at a spinning/weaving group i belong too, twice a year we have a dying day and i have learnt a few things. Choose color wisely, put a small piece of wool in first to see what color it will turn out like. Water brought to boil and then wool simmered evenly for approx 20 mins stirring every now and then. I have made a few mistakes by over boiling wool and stirring to much and ended up with a bit of a mess. Wool must be put into hanks and tied with bits of wool before you put into water so dyes evenly.
    Have fun!
